Weakland shredded abuse records

Retired Milwaukee Archbishop Rembert Weakland shredded copies of reports concerning sexual abuse by priests, legal depositions indicate.

The depositions made by Weakland in the 1990's were made public by the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests, The Pierce County Herald reports.

The group said the depositions were uncovered as a part of lawsuits by abuse victims who accuse the Milwaukee Archdiocese of fraud.

Weakland had admitted destroying copies of weekly reports on the subject which were sent to his office.

The survivors' group says it wants Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm to review the depositions to see if any criminal violations occurred.
