New priest for parish of love-struck cleric

A NEW parish priest has been appointed to replace the cleric who stepped down after telling his flock he had fallen in love with a mother of two.

Bishop of Derry Seamus Hegarty has appointed Fr Paddy O'Kane (right) to replace Fr Sean McKenna, who left the Holy Family parish in Derry three weeks ago.

Fr O'Kane was parish priest of Holy Family for 17 years before he was made parish priest of Moville in Co Donegal -- so he has returned to replace the priest who originally replaced him.

Fr McKenna, who is in a relationship with separated mother Elaine Curran, shocked his parishion- ers when he made his announcement at Masses on November 14 and 15.

Fr O'Kane said yesterday: "Because of all that has happened since I left Holy Family, I see my first few months back there as a period of listening to what the people have to say. My calling to God is my life and wherever that takes me, so be it," he said.
